About Us

ABOUT US Silvia Kaunas and her team work hard to provide their clients with two different services: Forensic Psychosocial evaluations and Psychotherapy.

Forensic Psychosocial evaluations are comprehensive assessments that aim to provide a bigger picture of who you are and what you have overcome, and give context to those who will review your case. According to a study that followed 746 asylum seekers in 2000-2004, 89% of asylum cases were granted when a psychological or medical evaluation was submitted. Our trauma-informed therapists conduct immigration evaluations with care, compassion, and professionalism, and we know that these evaluations can increase the odds of a favorable outcome in immigration cases.

Experiences of immigration, exile, and displacement can be overwhelming and bring on emotional and social challenges. As immigrants ourselves, we have a unique understanding of what it means to navigate multiple cultures. Our professional and personal knowledge of multinational identity makes us especially sensitive to cultural selfhood and adjustment issues in immigration cases and with individuals.

Psychotherapy, sometimes called talk therapy, refers to a variety of treatments that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Most psychotherapy takes place when a licensed mental health professional and a patient meet one-on-one or in a group setting. Psychotherapy is also a strength-based practice with the purpose of supporting individuals in exploring how past experiences have influenced their present.
